WPAR Backup

In this article

You can use Veeam Agent for IBM AIX to back up and restore individual WPARs configured in the IBM AIX OS. To perform WPAR backup, you must have at least one WPAR configured in the OS.

WPAR backup in similar to incremental backup: Veeam Agent for IBM AIX copies data pertaining to a selected WPAR and saves it to a backup file in the .tar.gz format. When you perform WPAR backup for the first time, Veeam Agent for IBM AIX creates a full copy of the WPAR data. During subsequent backup sessions, Veeam Agent for IBM AIX copies only new or changed data and saves it to a separate backup file. WPAR backup files have file names of the following format: container-<wparname>.tar.gz.

You can set up Veeam Agent for IBM AIX to create WPAR backup files in a separate backup location. You can also create WPAR backup files in the same backup location that you use for incremental backup. A backup location where you want to create a WPAR backup must be selected as the default backup location at the time when you start the WPAR backup process.

Veeam Agent for IBM AIX applies to WPAR backup the same retention policy settings that are specified for incremental backup.
