Protect VM Group

When you create a new failover plan or add a VM group to an existing failover plan, you have an option to run the Protect VM Group step to protect VMs included in the plan.

This step creates a new template-based backup job to back up VMs in the specified VM group after failover. If you undo failover or fail back to the Production site, the job will become DISABLED.

Protect VM Group Important!

Veeam Backup & Replication server on which the template backup job has been created must be connected to the vCenter Server which manages replica VMs.

You can override the following parameters for the Protect VM Group step:

Defines whether the step is critical for the VM recovery.

If you mark the step as Critical, its failure for a critical VM will halt the plan.

Maximum amount of time (in seconds) for the step to execute.

Retries

Number of retries that will be attempted if the step fails on the first try.

Test Action

Defines whether the step will be executed during plan testing in a virtual lab.
