Restoring Tenant Backups to Amazon EC2
The SP can restore tenant data to public clouds from the Veeam Cloud Connect server. Therefore the SP can perform restore operations with tenant backups to facilitate disaster recovery scenarios of tenant backups and use public cloud platforms as a target. This enables migration, for example, if the tenant decides to move permanently from an on premises repository to a public cloud repository.
The SP can restore to the following public cloud repositories:
- Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2)
- Microsoft Azure IaaS
Keep in mind that encrypted tenant backups cannot be restored to the Amazon EC2 repository.
For details on how restore to the Amazon EC2 repository works and limitations within the Veeam Backup & Replication infrastructure, see the Restore to Amazon EC2 section in the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide.
To start the operation, the SP must first disable the tenant account. To do that, complete the following steps:
- Open the Cloud Connect view.
- In the inventory pane, click Tenants.
- In the working area, right-click the tenant account and select Disable.
To learn more about this operation, see Disabling and Enabling Tenant Accounts.
To restore tenant backup to a Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) repository, do the following:
- Open the Home view.
- Select the Backups node in the inventory pane. Expand the repository node in the working area, and select the necessary VM and click Backup on the ribbon or right-click the replica and select Restore to Amazon EC2.
- At the Machine step of the wizard, select the VM in the list, click Point on the right and select the necessary restore point.
- At the Account step of the wizard, specify credentials of a user AWS account that will be used to connect to AWS and select a data center to restore to.
- At the Name step of the wizard, specify names and manage AWS tags for the restored workloads.
- At the Instance Type step of the wizard, configure the instance type for the restored workload, select which disks to restore and change their type.
- At the Network step of the wizard, select to which Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC) the restored workload must be connected. You can also specify a subnet, and a security group — a virtual firewall for the restored EC2 instance.
- At the Secure Restore step of the wizard, use Veeam Backup & Replication to scan machine data with antivirus software and YARA rules before restoring the machine to the production environment.
- At the Helper Appliance step of the wizard, specify helper appliance settings.
- At the Reason step of the wizard, specify the reason for future reference.
- At the Summary step of the wizard, check the specified settings and click Finish.
After complete the operation, the SP must enable the tenant account. To do that, complete the following steps::
- Open the Cloud Connect view.
- In the inventory pane, click Tenants.
- In the working area, right-click the tenant account and select Disable.
