Restoring Guest OS Files

You can restore individual guest OS files or folders from image-level backups of VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V and Nutanix AHV VMs as well as computers managed by Veeam Backup & Replication directly from Veeam Service Provider Console.

Before You Begin

Before you restore guest OS files, check prerequisites specified in the Considerations and Limitations section of the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide. For prerequisites specific to operating systems, check the following sections:

Additionally, make sure your service provider has enabled the following options:

  • Veeam Backup & Replication REST API access
  • Redirecting to the Veeam Backup & Replication web UI wizards from Veeam Service Provider Console

Note:

Restoring guest OS files is available for Veeam Backup & Replication version 13.1 or later.

Required Privileges

To perform this task, a user must have one of the following roles assigned: Company Owner, Company Administrator.

Restoring Guest OS Files from VMs

To restore guest OS files:

  1. Log in to Veeam Service Provider Console.

For details, see Accessing Veeam Service Provider Console.

  1. In the menu on the left, click Protected Data.
  2. Open the Virtual Machines tab and navigate to Virtual Infrastructure.
  3. Click a link in the Backups column.

Veeam Service Provider Console will open the Backups window.

  1. Select the necessary backup job in the list.
  2. At the top of the list, click Restore Guest Files.

Alternatively, you can right-click the necessary backup job and select Restore Guest Files.

Veeam Service Provider Console will open a restore wizard from the Veeam Backup & Replication web UI. To restore guest files, follow the procedure as described in the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide, starting from Step 2. Select Restore Point.

You can monitor the restore status in the Veeam Backup & Replication web UI. For details, see section Viewing Logs and Events in the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide.

Restoring Guest Files from Computers Managed by Veeam Backup & Replication

To restore guest OS files:

  1. Log in to Veeam Service Provider Console.

  1. In the menu on the left, click Protected Data.
  2. Open the Computers tab and navigate to Managed by Backup Server.
  3. Click a link in the Backups column.

Veeam Service Provider Console will open the Backups window.

  1. Select the necessary backup job in the list.
  2. At the top of the list, click Restore Guest Files.

Alternatively, you can right-click the necessary backup job and select Restore Guest Files.

Veeam Service Provider Console will open a restore wizard from the Veeam Backup & Replication web UI. To restore guest files, follow the procedure as described in the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide, starting from Step 2. Select Restore Point.
