Creating Backup Repository

If you target the backup job at a local directory, network shared folder or object storage location, you must create a repository before you configure the backup job.

Before You Begin

Consider the following about creating backup repositories:

  • A backup repository must be created on a separate volume from a volume whose data you plan to back up.
  • If you target a backup job at a Veeam backup repository or Veeam Cloud Connect repository, you do not need to create repositories. Before configuring the backup job, you must connect to the Veeam backup server or Veeam Cloud Connect service provider. To learn more, see Connecting to Veeam Backup Server and Connecting to Service Provider.
  • [For Veeam Agent computers running macOS 26] You cannot create a repository in a network shared folder. If you want to store backups in a network shared folder, you must mount the network folder to a local directory and create a local repository in this directory.
