Scheduling Snapshot Creation (NetApp)

In this article

You can configure a backup job to create NetApp storage snapshots automatically by schedule. During a backup job session, Veeam Backup & Replication will trigger NetApp to create a storage snapshot on the necessary NetApp storage system:

    • Primary NetApp storage array
    • Secondary NetApp storage array — NetApp SnapMirror or SnapVault

Automatic snapshot creation lets you complement backups created with Veeam Backup & Replication with snapshots created on the NetApp storage system, and reduce administration overhead.

To create storage snapshots with Veeam Backup & Replication, you must configure a backup job and define a destination for snapshot creation in the job settings. Veeam Backup & Replication lets you configure the following types of job:

    • Storage snapshots only: the backup job that creates only storage snapshots on the primary NetApp storage array and, optionally, storage snapshots on NetApp SnapMirror and/or SnapVault.
    • Storage snapshots in the secondary destination: the backup job that creates a VM backup in the primary location (backup repository) and triggers a storage snapshot in the secondary location — primary NetApp storage array, NetApp SnapMirror and/or NetApp SnapVault.
