HPE Nimble Limitations

If you plan to perform operations with HPE Nimble storage snapshots, consider the following limitation:

As part of its backup process, Veeam Backup & Replication will set Nimble snapshots online to read the source data. The snapshot is then set offline when the backup is complete. This may trigger a rescan of storage on the ESXi host, which can make the ESXi host discover this snapshot and mark it online. When the snapshot is set offline after the backup job is completed, ESXi may then create alerts/alarms about storage being inaccessible for a volume that does not seem to exist.

As a workaround, set the access policy for the ESXi hosts to be "Volume Only" instead of "Volume and Snapshots". This will prevent the hosts from being aware of an online snapshot.

The ESXi hosts may need to be rebooted during a maintenance period for the new LUN access permissions to take effect.
