How VMware Objects are Discovered

The discovery process can be summarized as follows:

  1. First, the Veeam Collector application is discovered using a standard registry discovery targeted at all Windows Computers in OpsMgr.
  2. Next, VMware topology discovery scripts are targeted at each Veeam VMware Collector application. This discovery takes place in two stages:
  1. vCenter Servers, vSphere clusters, datastore clusters, resource pools, vApps and host parent objects.
  2. Datastores, Virtual Switches, Distributed Virtual Switches, host component objects (such as security profiles, hardware sensors, HBAs and NICs) and virtual machines. This stage is triggered 60 minutes after the first stage discovery.

In general, objects from the previous discovery are targets for the next discovery.
