Virtual Machines. Right-sizing – VMs Oversized for Memory and CPU (Ops Mgr agent data)

The report helps you to detect virtual machines that have more allocated vRAM or vCPU resources than they require. The report will only support VMs that run Ops Mgr agents inside the virtualized OS (for VMs without agents, use the Oversized VMs report that was present in previous releases).

The report analyzes historical data on % Memory Used and % Processor Time performance metric values collected by the Ops Mgr agent running in the guest OS. These metrics gathered inside the guest OS provide better recommendations for right-sizing (especially in terms of memory usage).

Example Output

In this example, the report allows you to detect top 10 VMs that have more allocated memory than they require. Performance statistics for the last month were used as a basis for the report analysis.

To run this report:

  1. From the From list, choose This month > First day. From the To list, choose Today.
  2. From the Sections to Show list, choose vRAM.
  3. From the Show Details list, choose Yes (expanded).
  4. From the Performance Modeling Based On list, select Average Usage.
  5. Leave the Scope section without changes.
  6. In the Top N Count field, type 10.
  7. Click Run to view the report.

Right-sizing – VMs Oversized for Memory and CPU Report Settings

The report will show tables and charts displaying information on top 10 VMs memory consumption: allocated, recommended, min/max and average memory values, standard deviation and current configuration.

Virtual Machines. Right-sizing – VMs Oversized for Memory and CPU (Ops Mgr agent data) Note:

All recommendations are based on the current configuration. So, if a virtual machine has no current configuration (is turned off or decommissioned), it will not be included in the report.

You can click the name of an undersized VM or the Undersized VMs link in the RAM analysis table to drill down to performance details for these VMs.

You can click the VMs that cannot be analyzed link in the RAM analysis table to drill down to performance details for these VMs.

There is a misspelling right here:

I want to let the Veeam Documentation Team know about that.
