Starting Failover Plans

You can start a failover plan without accessing the Veeam Backup & Replication console on a managed backup server.

Required Privileges

To perform this task, a user must have one of the following roles assigned: Service Provider Global Administrator, Service Provider Administrator, Service Provider Operator.

Starting Failover Plans

  1. Log in to Veeam Service Provider Console.

For details, see Accessing Veeam Service Provider Console.

  1. In the menu on the left, click Failover Plans.
  2. Select one or more plans in the list.
  3. At the top of the list, click Start.

Alternatively, you can right-click the necessary failover plan and choose Start.

  1. In the Start Plan window, select the restore point you want to fail over to:
  • If you want to fail over to the latest restore points of VM replicas, select the Start to the latest restore point option.

In this case, Veeam Service Provider Console will search for the latest restore point of VM replicas across all replication jobs configured on the backup server.

For example, you have 2 jobs that replicate the same VM: Job 1 has created the most recent point at 2:00 AM and Job 2 has created the most recent restore point at 3:00 AM. When you run the failover plan, Veeam Service Provider Console will pick the restore point created at 3:00 AM with Job 2.

  • If you want to fail over to specific restore points of VM replicas, select the Start to the most recent VM replica option and choose the date and time you want to fail over to.

In this case, Veeam Service Provider Console will search for the closest restore point prior to the specified date and time for each VM across all replication jobs configured on the backup server.
