Creating Veeam Backup Agent Policies
A Veeam backup agent policy is a template that describes the configuration of a Veeam backup agent job. The policy can be assigned to computers protected with Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows or Veeam Agent for Linux.
Before You Begin
Before you configure a Veeam backup agent policy, check prerequisites specified in the following sections of the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide:
Additionally, make sure you have enabled the following options:
- Veeam Backup & Replication REST API access
- Redirecting to the Veeam Backup & Replication web UI wizards from Veeam Service Provider Console

Required Privileges
To perform this task, a user must have the following role assigned: Portal Administrator.
Creating Veeam Backup Agent Policies
To create a backup policy:
- Log in to Veeam Service Provider Console.
For details, see Accessing Veeam Service Provider Console.
- In the menu on the left, click Backup Jobs.
- Open the Computers tab and navigate to Managed by Backup Server.
- At the top of the jobs list, click New.
- Select the necessary operating system and policy mode:
- Windows > Server Backup Policy
- Windows > Workstation Backup Policy
- Linux > Server Backup Policy
- Linux > Workstation Backup Policy
For details on Veeam backup agent policy modes, see the following sections of the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide:
Veeam Service Provider Console will open the Create Job window.
- Select the backup server on which you want to create the policy and click Create.
Veeam Service Provider Console will open the New Agent Backup Job wizard from the Veeam Backup & Replication web UI. Follow the procedure as described in the Veeam Backup & Replication User Guide, starting from the following sections:
- For Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows policies: Step 3. Specify Job Name and Description
- For Veeam Agent for Linux policies: Step 3. Specify Job Name and Description
