During Backup from Storage Snapshots, Veeam Backup & Replication instructs the storage system to create temporary storage snapshots. Veeam Backup & Replication uses these snapshots as a data source for VM data processing. Temporary storage snapshots are application-consistent: they hold VM data in a consistent state and guarantee proper restore of application and services.
You can use snapshots created with Veeam Backup & Replication to build a snapshot chain on the primary or secondary storage array.
To create application-consistent snapshots on storage arrays, you must configure a snapshot job of the necessary type. Veeam Backup & Replication lets you configure two types of jobs:
To learn which VMs on storage arrays were processed by snapshot jobs, open the Storage Infrastructure view and navigate to the necessary storage snapshot. If a VM was processed by a snapshot job, Veeam Backup & Replication displays the snapshot job name in the Protected by column.
