Deploying Linux Infrastructure Components

You can prepare a Linux machine as a backup infrastructure component in one of the following ways:

Configure the machine with Veeam Infrastructure Appliance based on the Rocky Linux distribution. This requires the Veeam Infrastructure Appliance ISO file and is the recommended option. For more information, see Installing Veeam Infrastructure Appliance with ISO.
Configure the machine manually with a supported operating system. For more information, see the system requirements for specific backup infrastructure components.

Compared to manual configuration, a machine configured with Veeam Infrastructure Appliance has the following advantages:

The operating system is compliant with most DISA STIG requirements. For more information, see Considerations and Limitations.
SSH access is disabled by default. You can enable SSH access in the Veeam Host Management console. For more information, see Managing SSH Access.
No user name or password is required to add the machine; authentication is performed using certificates.
The Veeam Updater installs operating system and security updates automatically. For more information, see Updating Veeam Appliances.
