Configuring Storage Systems
Before you start working with storage systems in Veeam Backup & Replication, you must configure the infrastructure. For more information on the required components and how to add them, see Infrastructure Overview.
Types of Storage Systems
Veeam Backup & Replication works with two types of storage systems:
- Built-in storage systems.
Storage systems whose integration is fully developed by Veeam and built into Veeam Backup & Replication. For more information, see Built-In Storage Systems.
- Universal storage API integrated systems.
Storage systems whose integration is developed by vendors using the Veeam Universal Storage API framework. These systems require installing a storage system plug-in. For more information, see Universal Storage API Integrated Systems.
Depending on the integration type you use, you can add different storage systems to your infrastructure. To learn which storage systems are supported for different types of integration, see System Requirements. Also, check the requirements for a specific storage system before you add it to your backup infrastructure.
Storage Systems Managed Together
Some storage vendors let you manage multiple storage systems together as a single environment. Storage vendors may implement and name this capability differently. For example, Everpure Fusion calls it "fleet"
When you add such an environment to Veeam Backup & Replication, it discovers all storage systems in that environment and adds them to the backup infrastructure.
For the list of storage systems that support this capability, see System Requirements. For the list of requirements and limitations, see General Requirements and Limitations (Storage Systems).
Working with Storage Systems
To start working with a storage system, you must add the storage system on which the backup data is hosted to the backup infrastructure. If you plan to work with a secondary storage array, you must add it to the backup infrastructure as well.
After you have added the storage system, you must rescan it. You also need to rescan the system, for example, if you deleted or added snapshots not using Veeam Backup & Replication and want to update the information in Veeam Backup & Replication.
If you do not need the storage system anymore, you can remove it from the backup infrastructure.
Viewing Added Storage Systems
The topology of the storage system added to the backup infrastructure is displayed in the Storage Infrastructure view in the Veeam Backup & Replication console. Storage systems added as one managed environment (for example, Everpure Fusion fleet) are shown nested in the storage system tree.
On the Home view, in the Backups > Snapshots node, you can see volumes with storage snapshots and VMs stored on these volumes.
Note |
If only Veeam Agents or NAS backup processing is selected for a storage system, volumes with snapshots are not displayed under the Backups > Snapshots node. The storage system itself is still displayed in the Storage Infrastructure view, but no objects appear under the device. To manage NAS file shares backed up through this device, go to Inventory > File Shares. |
