System Requirements

Before you start using Veeam Plug-In for Oracle RMAN, make sure the following requirements are met.

The following system requirements apply to Veeam Plug-In for Oracle RMAN operating in the standalone mode. For more information on system requirements for Veeam Plug-Ins managed by Veeam Backup & Replication, see System Requirements for Managed Veeam Plug-Ins.

Veeam Plug-In for Oracle RMAN is supported for the following Unix versions: Oracle Solaris 10 and 11 (x86_64, SPARC) IBM AIX 6.1, 7.1, 7.2 and 7.3
Cloud platforms	Veeam Plug-In for Oracle RMAN is supported on virtual machines running in the following cloud platforms, provided the virtual machine runs a supported OS: Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Amazon EC2 Microsoft Azure Google Cloud Platform Alibaba Cloud IBM Cloud
Software	[For Microsoft Windows computers] Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 is included in the Veeam Plug-In for Oracle RMAN Redistributable. During the deployment process, Veeam Backup & Replication checks whether Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 is available on the target computer. If Microsoft .NET Framework 4.6 is missing, Veeam Backup & Replication will install the missing software automatically. Oracle database	Veeam Plug-In for Oracle RMAN supports Standard and Enterprise Editions of the following Oracle Database versions: Oracle Database 26ai Oracle Database 23ai Oracle Database 21c Oracle Database 19c Oracle Database 18c Oracle Database 12c Oracle Database 11g Release 2
Supported Oracle RMAN features	Veeam Plug-In for Oracle RMAN supports the following Oracle RMAN features: Veeam Plug-In will be registered as an SBT_TAPE device. All Oracle RMAN functionality that is supported with the SBT_TAPE device type will work. For example, Automatic Storage Management (Oracle ASM) and Container DBs (CDBs). Veeam Plug-In supports backup and restore of Oracle databases that operate in clusters. For details, see Support for Clusters.
Veeam Backup & Replication	Veeam Backup & Replication 13.1 supports Veeam Plug-Ins starting from version 13. Previous versions of Veeam Plug-Ins are not supported. Note that Veeam Backup & Replication must be the same or later than the version of Veeam Plug-In. If you want to use the latest functionality, you must upgrade both Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Plug-In to the latest version. If you use an earlier Veeam Plug-In build, it may not have all the features and bug fixes introduced in your Veeam Backup & Replication version. To restore data from a backup, the version of Veeam Plug-In must be the same or later than the version that created the backup. Restore with an earlier version of Veeam Plug-In from a backup created with a later version is not supported and may cause the restore to fail. This limitation applies to build numbers, not only major versions. For example, you cannot use Veeam Plug-In build 13.0.1.2067 to restore data from a backup created with build 13.1.1.18.
Network	Veeam Plug-In should be able to establish a direct IP connection to the Veeam Backup & Replication server. Thus, Veeam Plug-In cannot work with the Veeam Backup & Replication server that is located behind the NAT gateway. For communication between the Veeam backup infrastructure and servers that host databases to be backed up, one of the following authentication protocols is required: Kerberos. To learn more, see Kerberos Authentication. Keep in mind that Veeam Plug-In running on the Unix OS does not support Kerberos authentication. Windows New Technology LAN Manager (NTLM). As NTLM is provided by Microsoft, only the Veeam backup server running on the Microsoft Windows OS supports NTLM. If you have Veeam Plug-In running on the Unix OS and want to authenticate to a Veeam backup server running on Linux (Veeam Software Appliance), you cannot use domain accounts. In this case, you must use a local user account. We recommend specifying credentials for a local user account with the Service Account role.
